A thorough oral examination helps to detect abnormalities, cavities, gum and bone recession and other issues. We make sure to inspect areas such as the mouth, head, and neck as well. Our office utilizes the latest in x-ray technology to allow for a complete examination. The doctor or hygienist may also perform an oral cancer exam which involves feeling around the cheeks, gums, tongue, under the jaw, and the sides of the neck.

Our dental cleanings are gentle, safe for your teeth, and meticulous to ensure that dental plaque and tartar are removed from the teeth. We use specialized instruments to remove these deposits without harming the teeth. Our techniques range from manual hand tools, ultrasonic devices, and polishing equipment. You will walk away feeling refreshed and with that “just left the dentist clean” feeling!

Many of our patients are athletes and their sports require them to use a mouthguard to protect their teeth while practicing and playing their sport. We often recommend a mouthguard for those in contact sports to cover the gums and teeth, provide protection, for the lips, gums, teeth, and arches and reduce the severity of any injuries that occur. However, mouthguards have many purposes beyond simply protection in sports. They can also be beneficial for those experiencing clenching, grinding, or TMJ issues. A properly fitted mouth guard is essential and we are equipped to help fit each one uniquely to your individual mouth.

Scaling and root planing is a non-surgical procedure that helps to treat gum disease as well as the active infection in the mouth that is causing it. We use specialized instruments to remove dental plaque and calculus from beneath the gums as well as smooth down the area to help the gums heal and re-attach themselves properly.

When decay has reached the nerve of a tooth, or a tooth has become infected, a root canal may be necessary. A root canal helps to remove the infected or inflamed pulp of the tooth from the tooth chamber. The inside of the tooth is then cleaned and disinfected before being filled and sealed to help limit the potential for future infection or damage. Soon after the root canal is performed, the tooth is then restored with a dental crown or filling to further protect the tooth and restore normal function.

In many cases, a tooth that cannot be saved through other restorative procedures may need to be removed. We numb the area, prior to removal, with anesthesia and then carefully and gently remove the tooth with a safe rocking motion. Once the tooth is sufficiently loosened, it can then be removed, and stitches are sometimes utilized following the extraction.
